TOPIC:  An update on the use of Offshore Vehicles

A discussion of uses of Cayman Islands/BVI and other offshore vehicles in transactions in Hong Kong and the region. Looking at the use of such vehicles in Corporate, Funds, Finance and Restructuring Transactions. Recent changes in the laws of Cayman (and to a lesser extent, BVI) will also be covered, along with  emerging trends - increased shareholder disputes, difficulties in opening bank accounts, debates on privacy and the rise of the "Midshore".

SPEAKERS: 

Arwel Lewis is a partner in the Corporate and Investment Funds Group of Walkers' Hong Kong office.  His experience includes advising investment banks, financial institutions, investment managers and private equity houses on downstream private equity investments and private equity fund formation. He also has significant experience of British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands hedge fund structures, including formation, maintenance, restructuring and dissolution. In addition Arwel has broad experience on joint venture, IPO and financing transactions involving British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands structures.

Fraser Hern is a partner in the Insolvency, Restructuring and Dispute Resolution Group of Walkers' Hong Kong office.  He specialises in all forms of dispute resolution (including shareholder and general corporate disputes), complex restructurings, contentious and non-contentious insolvencies and distressed situations, advising minority shareholders, trustees, stakeholders, creditors, debtors, private equity and hedge funds, and insolvency practitioners on a wide range of litigation and insolvency related matters.
