An Interview with Edith Shih, Head Group General Counsel and Company Secretary of CK Hutchison Holdings Limited

As in previous events in this very popular series, Ms. Shih be interviewed by Jonathan Ross covering her rise to become one of the pre-eminent in house counsels in Hong Kong, managing a team of 230 counsels worldwide, her efforts in promoting governance and ethics in the corporate world and the legal community. The audience will be encouraged to participate as much as possible and to ask their own questions.


Edith Shih is the Head Group General Counsel and Company Secretary of CK Hutchison Holdings Limited, a Fortune 500 conglomerate based in Hong Kong operating in over 50 countries with annual revenues of US$50 billion. At CK Hutchison, she heads a team of over 230 lawyers and 60 company secretarial executives, stationed in 20 countries, overseeing all legal, regulatory and corporate secretarial affairs of the group. Edith herself is the recipient of the first Hong Kong In-House Lawyer of the Year Award of Asian Legal Business in 2006, the first Asian Woman in Business Law Award of the Legal Media Group in 2011 and General Counsel of the Year (Asia-Pacific Counsel Awards) of International Law Offices in 2014. She also acts as director and company secretary for a number of CK Hutchison companies, including listed companies in Hong Kong, London, Australia, Singapore and New York.
  
Edith holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education (Music) and a Master of Arts degree (Education) from the University of the Philippines and a Master of Arts degree in Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages and a Master of Education degree in Applied Linguistics from Columbia University, New York. She is qualified to practise law in Hong Kong, England and Wales and Victoria, Australia and is a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries
