TOPIC:  The New Hong Kong Competition Ordinance

The New Hong Kong Competition Ordinance has the potential to fundamentally change the business landscape in Hong Kong.  We will outline the scope of the Ordinance, including the Conduct Rules, the investigations and enforcement regime, and how we see competition policy and enforcement evolving in Hong Kong.

SPEAKERS:        

Jenny Connolly - Partner, China Antitrust Group, Hong Kong

Jenny is a partner in the Freshfields antitrust group and is based in Hong Kong. She is co-head of the firm’s technology sector group and has served as an elected member of the Freshfields Partnership Council, the governing body of the firm, for six years.

Jenny advises on all aspects of European and Chinese competition law, as well as the coordination of transactions and investigations which require multi-jurisdictional analysis. A significant part of Jenny’s practice has involved advising clients in complex corporate transactions, defending clients in market dominance and cartel investigations and acting in major sectoral and abuse inquiries.

She was educated at Swarthmore College in the US graduating with High Honors in History, Philosophy and Political Science. She holds a doctor of jurisprudence from the University of Chicago Law School. She is jointly qualified in the US and the UK.

Annalisa Heger - Associate, China Antitrust Group, Hong Kong

Annalisa Heger is an associate in the Freshfields antitrust group and is based in Hong Kong. Prior to joining the firm, she worked with the Office of Communications (Ofcom) in the UK, which is the independent regulator and competition authority responsible for the UK communications industries. She has also previously worked in the London office of a leading international law firm.

Annalisa advises on contentious and non-contentious antitrust matters relating to China, the UK and the EU. She has significant litigation and contentious experience, having advised on a number of disputes and investigations in the UK, the EU and Hong Kong, and has acquired considerable merger control expertise in Europe and China.

Annalisa has particular expertise in the technology, media, telecommunications, financial services and energy sectors.

Annalisa obtained a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney and holds a Masters in EC Competition Law from King’s College London. She is admitted to practice in the UK.
