TOPIC: “Reducing your risk: How to avoid being a patent defendant in China!"
With the explosion of patent and utility model filings in China, there has been a more than proportionate increase in patent litigation. This seminar will look at the nature of patent litigation threats in China: How do they arise? Where do the threats stem from? What can companies do to anticipate the threats, protect against them, and in the “worst-case” scenario, what can they do defend against the treats and/or minimize their impact?
SPEAKER: Elliot Papageorgiou, an Executive of Rouse & Co. International & partner of Rouse Legal UK
Elliot Papageorgiou has been advising international clients from Rouse’s Beijing, Guangzhou, and most recently Shanghai offices for 10 years. His practice focuses on (i) devising strategies for clients to maximize the benefit of their IP (and especially patent) portfolios; and (ii) counseling and supporting, and increasingly defending, clients in the event of IP disputes.
During his time in China, Elliot has been supporting companies faced with explosive growth of patent rights, to the point that now almost 50% of his practice centers on advising companies on how to avoid becoming targets of China patent lawsuits. In the event that they become targets, he helps minimize the impact on their business of such suits, and successfully defend against them.
