The HKCCA’s Executive Committee invites you to the following presentation, hosted by Cordells and CBRE.

TOPIC:  Avoiding Legal and Financial Risk in Commercial Leasing

The seminar will cover the negotiation of commercial leases in the current market with particular emphasis on leasing procedures and financial and legal risk.  The speakers will discuss the leasing process, rent and rent review, service charges, alienation, indemnities, insurance and reinstatement and a range of other issues. 

SPEAKERS: 

Alice Yau - Cordells

Alice specialises in real estate transactions in Hong Kong. She is experienced in representing major investment banks and corporations in preparing and negotiating commercial leases and other landlord and tenant related documentation. Her experience includes advising on the property-related aspects of regional acquisitions, mergers and joint ventures. She also acts for various financial institutions in relation to the creation of security over properties, including commercial buildings, industrial premises and hotels. 

Alice has experience in title review of properties in Hong Kong and provides advice on defective title issues. She has handled a wide range of sale and purchase, mortgage and re-finance transactions.

Samson Mann - Cordells

Samson’s main area of practice is in real estate transactions and he has experience assisting in the acquisition, development and disposal of different types of commercial real estate.  Samson has represented several major investment banks and corporations in preparing and negotiating commercial leases of all sizes from single units in retail premises to multi-floor occupation in Grade A commercial buildings in Hong Kong and across Asia.  Another main area of practice is in project development and advising on environmental and planning aspects on major projects involving theme parks and resorts, data centres and residential development. 

Samson has also extensive experience in the area of dispute resolution handling both construction arbitrations as well as general commercial litigation cases.  Samson qualified and was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2010 and was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 2014.  He practised as part of the real estate and construction disputes teams of Minter Ellison before joining Cordells. 

Ed Farrelly - CBRE

Ed is a Senior Director with the CBRE Hong Kong Office Services team, having previously served as Head of Research in both Spain and Hong Kong. He has published market leading reports on the outlook for the Hong Kong office market and is an experienced market commentator, collaborating widely with international media organisations.
