TOPIC:  A Global Review of Recent Developments in Privacy and Cybersecurity Laws

Global privacy and cybersecurity issues continue to be key considerations for virtually every business and industry. Various regional regulatory regimes and legal perspectives evolve quickly making compliance an ever-changing challenge. Join us as we discuss recent developments that are impacting businesses across the Asian and U.S. markets. During the session, we will discuss the different approaches to data security between Asia and the U.S. and how cybersecurity and privacy risks are dealt with across the globe, the key issues and some of the solutions.

SPEAKERS:

Cameron Kerry, Senior Counsel, Sidley Austin LLP, Boston and Washington, D.C.

CAM KERRY, former General Counsel and Acting Secretary of the United States Department of Commerce, has played a leadership role in addressing many of the biggest challenges facing business today, including consumer privacy issues and international discussions regarding systems for data protection. His broad practice operates at the intersection of law and technology and is informed by his years of government service and over three decades in private practice. Cam joins his wealth of experience in the highest levels of government with the global and inter-disciplinary resources of Sidley’s highly regarded Privacy, Data Security and Information Law team. In addition, Cam works on complex matters involving international trade relations, intellectual property policy, litigation, government affairs and communications.

Yuet Ming Tham, Partner, Sidley Austin, Hong Kong & Singapore

Ms. Tham advises international corporations on their legal risks across Asia, such as those relating to anti-bribery laws (including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act), international trade controls, sanctions, anti-money laundering regulations, e-commerce, data security and privacy.

Prior to joining Sidley, Ms. Tham was the Asia Head of the Regulatory, Compliance & Investigations Group, and also Head of the Asia Life Sciences Group at another international law firm. She has also held roles as a Deputy Public Prosecutor in Singapore and was previously the Asia Pacific Regional Compliance Director for Pfizer. During that time, she was responsible for compliance and investigations in Japan, China, Australia, Korea, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan, HK, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines.
