TOPIC: Discovery tools in the US and Hong Kong
This presentation will examine discovery procedures and tools in Hong Kong and the US, respectively, and the relative advantages of each. For any corporation conducting business across borders, it is critical to bear in mind the various jurisdictions implicated in bringing or defending potential claims. Understanding the scope of evidence available via court order will help in-house counsel to determine litigation strategy and evaluate potential claims. Specific topics to be address include 28 U.S.C. § 1782 actions, pretrial and third-party discovery, and U.S. jurisdiction over non-U.S. entities for the purposes of discovery.

Mrs. Barbara Chiu specializes in commercial litigation, regulatory investigation, commercial crime, international arbitration and employment laws. Mrs. Barbara Chiu has extensive experience in commercial litigation, shareholder disputes, commercial fraud cases, regulatory investigation, employment laws and also international arbitration, judicial review, trust related claims and matrimonial disputes.
Ms. Tara Plochocki specializes in complex transnational commercial litigation, focusing on leveraging the US legal system for the benefit of global clients. She regularly advises on US laws with extraterritorial application, including anti-corruption, economic sanctions, and anti-terrorism laws.
