TOPIC:  From Private Practice to In-House - Building Relationships

Relationship building is an essential skill for all in house lawyers.  Those who have recently made the move from private practice may find that winning over some of their new internal clients can be more difficult than expected.  Familiar with building client relationships in their private practice firm, they will now be faced with new challenges.  How do you approach showing your internal clients what you do, how the legal team operates and how to help each other?  How do you gain ground with colleagues who have little knowledge (or interest) in legal issues?  And how do you build relationships in an environment where nobody has the time?

In this 60 minute workshop, we will look at how to overcome these obstacles and adapt private practice marketing approaches and understanding to suit the demands on an in-house lawyer.  The session will finish with practical suggestions for attendees to put any lessons learned into practice when they return to work.

SPEAKERS: Joanne Gray, Founder and Director, Artemis Gray

Joanne began her career in a business development role at Allen & Overy, which led to a career in international business development for law firms in Europe, the US and Asia. Most recently, she has been Asia Head of Business Development for both Freshfields and Linklaters. Joanne has worked with lawyers of all levels on business development and client relationship management. She set up Artemis Gray in 2014 to focus on those aspects of her in-house roles she enjoyed the most: coaching, training and consulting. She did her coach training with the NeuroLeadership Group and is a member of the International Coach Federation.
