TOPIC: To React Well, Prepare Well - Practical Tips for handling Regulatory Investigations

Regulators in Hong Kong, including the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Financial Reporting Council, perform regular reviews of financial statements of listed companies in Hong Kong. These queries or comment letters always demand speedy, comprehensive and accurate responses.

Inappropriate and unprofessional replies to regulators’ enquiries may lead to further investigation which will be time and resources consuming. To the extent the responses are not considered to be adequate from the perspective of the regulators, it may even lead to a regulator concluding an entity is not compliant with accounting standards and/or other regulatory requirements, consequently arousing public censure and adversely affect the entity's reputation.

SPEAKER: Gabriel Chan, Partner, PwC

Gabriel Chan, an Assurance partner with 18 years of experience with PwC Hong Kong, will be sharing his experience handling challenging matters like these with local regulators. Based on his experience of actual client scenarios as well as questions received by PwC's clients, concerns from the eyes of the regulators and PwC's recommendations on how to address and approach an effective response to questions on these areas, Gabriel will cover some of the hot topics specifically directed at in-house counsel including impairment, adoption of new standards, business combination, etc.
