Together, Jonathan Warne, author or the CMS General Counsel Report “General Counsel: Reaching new heights?”, and David Lamb, Executive Director & Group Counsel of Hongkong Land Limited, will unveil the ‘8C’ Strategic Counsel Model – the eight key leadership competencies GCs need to master – over an interactive facilitated breakfast discussion.

TOPIC:  General Counsel: Reaching new heights? ‘8C’ Strategic Counsel Model

What are the attributes that help propel GC’s to the top table? To what degree have GC’s really increased their influence? With the increasing scope of today’s GC role, what are we seeing emerge as longer term or indeed alternative career aspirations?

The 5th in a series of reports, the CMS General Counsel Report insightfully reflects upon and analyses the challenging and changing world of the GC.

The breakfast discussion will see Jonathan and David lead a facilitated discussion around the business life of the modern GC. This GC Report, brings insight to;

  • The increasing scope and responsibility of the GC role
  • The challenges of compliance, regulatory and reputational issues
  • The degree to which GCs have increased their influence at board level over the last five years, and the successful ways people have managed it
  • Long term career aspirations and goals from leading GCs in the field

The report is based upon quantitative and qualitative input from over 150+ respondents, and features candid interviews with high profile General Counsel, including Kathryn Coville from GSK and Lesley Wan (formerly of) Lloyds Banking Group.

Learning from these interviews, the ‘8C’ Strategic Counsel Model was developed and designed to help propel GCs to the top-table, by focusing on strategic priorities and solutions.
