TOPIC:  Tomorrow’s GC: Preparing the Digital GC of Tomorrow 

The legal hot topic of the moment is “LegalTech”.  It carries a lot of buzz, but what are the practical impacts of this for in-house counsel?  How are businesses integrating legal technology into their day to day operations? What are the challenges to becoming digital? What is the future of law?

At this session our panel will discuss the challenges of today’s in-house counsel, and how we integrate or adopt legal technology.  Is it helpful?  Does it transform our legal teams?  Does it help deal with the rapidly changing legal and regulatory environment? How do we stay relevant as in-house counsel in this digitized world?

Titus Rahiri, KorumLegal
Managing Director

Titus is a senior corporate and commercial lawyer with over 15 years experience in private practice and as a general counsel across Australasia, Europe and Asia. He has worked in global listed companies as well as start-ups on a range of matters including general corporate and commercial, business advisory and strategic risk and compliance. Titus has a keen interest in the technology, media and telecoms space.

Giuliana Auinger, KPMG

Director, Global Strategy Group

Giuliana has over 10 years of experience assisting senior executives from leading organisations in developing and implementing better strategies, leveraging the power of transformation to improve business operations. Giuliana has a successful track record in strategic analysis, growth strategy and complex transformation programs in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications sector.

Andrew Janis, Uber
Head of Legal, Southeast Asia & North Asia

Andrew has a range of legal experience in the technology, financial services and non-profit sectors. He is currently Uber's Head of Legal for Southeast Asia and North Asia, where he and his team provide coverage for 12 countries across the region, with a focus on regulatory matters. Prior to joining Uber, Andrew was with JPMorgan, where he worked on employment matters and investigations. Before moving to Hong Kong, he was in private practice at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in New York and then in-house at the Institute of International Education, which runs the Fulbright Fellowship.

Lisa Lam, formerly of Ant Financial
Lead International Counsel

With over 17 years of both in-house and private practice experience across Asia Pacific, Lisa has had to navigate complex regional and cultural environments.

She is a seasoned business lawyer with extensive international experience in payments, licensing and regulatory compliance in the financial services and technology sectors. She was Lead International Counsel at Alipay China and before that, Associate General Counsel for Western Union Financial Services, two major financial players within the Asia region.

Jonty Lim, KPMG
Director, Legal Counsel

Jonty has extensive experience in advising sophisticated counterparties such as global financial institutions, international bondholders, regulatory agencies and PE houses in both contentious and non-contentious settings in the United States, Europe and Asia. Jonty’s experience focuses on the entire corporate life cycle ranging from capital formation, mergers & acquisitions, restructuring to maturity. He has also dealt with the flow and proprietary books of leading investment banks and has advised on a spectrum of leading capital markets transactions ranging from equity and debt offerings to private placements and various bank financing matters. 

Jonty is a Director and Legal Counsel at KPMG China for over 7 years where he was involved in several of the leading turnaround and advisory engagements in the region. He also holds a practise development role in the firm. He has also previously practiced in the bank financing, US capital markets, and corporate teams at the law firms of Shearman & Sterling in New York, Herbert Smith and Eversheds Sutherlands in Hong Kong respectively.
