International Cybercrime: The Law Enforcement Dimension

On 13 July 2017, O'Melveny & Myers hosted a lunch seminar for a full house of HKCCA members, providing an update on the latest developments in international cybercrime enforcement, a rapidly changing area that concerns many multinational corporations.

Ron Cheng, a partner of O’Melveny, and a former U.S. cybersecurity prosecutor, discussed the current state of cybercrime, including ransomware and business email compromises, and how a corporate victim should respond to cybercrime investigations. Ron also discussed several cases he handled as a prosecutor, including an international phishing fraud against major U.S. banks conducted in both Egypt and the U.S., and an investigation into "hack-for-hire" websites that offered to steal email account passwords for a fee.

Due to overwhelming demand, the seminar was re-ran on 27 July 2017 in order to accommodate more participants.
